One of the most representative festivals in the country takes place in Pasto, Nariño. The Blacks and Whites’ Carnival, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009, is an authentic expression of southern Colombia’s cultural diversity. Colorful comparsas made up of people of all ages parade in traditional costumes, performing rural dances, while spectators actively participate by painting their faces black and white in a joyful and inclusive atmosphere.

Cartagena International Classical Music Festival: January 4–12

Cartagena de Indias also hosts major cultural events. From January 4 to 12, the Cartagena International Classical Music Festival, the most important classical music event in the country, takes place. The festival has become a cultural bridge between Europe and the Americas, offering concerts and talks in historic venues with the participation of renowned national and international artists.

Manizales Fair: January 6–12

Since 1951, the Manizales Fair has established itself as one of Colombia’s most traditional celebrations and has been declared National Cultural Heritage. During these days, the city comes alive with music and color through craft exhibitions, parades, live orchestra performances, and the renowned International Coffee Queen Pageant, which pays tribute to the coffee-growing identity of the region.
