New Experiences in Villa de Leyva & Santander
On our recent visit to these colonial towns, we explored activities that allow travelers to get closer to local traditions and everyday life. These include a fique workshop in Santander, a wool workshop in Villa de Leyva, and a game of tejo to experience one of Colombia’s most popular pastimes.
Here are the experiences we’re now including in our itineraries:

Today you will immerse yourself in a unique experience that blends tradition, nature, and fun at Granja El Recreo, an ecotourism farm located just 4 km (10 minutes) from the historic center of Villa de Leyva. In this artisanal workshop by Tejidos Dansa, we’ll learn alongside skilled rural women about the traditional process of working with virgin wool — from raising sheep to transforming the wool into yarn and woven pieces. We'll have the chance to touch and handle the wool, gaining insight into its regional significance and historical roots.
After the wool workshop, we’ll enjoy a traditional Colombian meal and discover the country’s most iconic game: tejo. The rules are simple, and the fun is guaranteed — a lively and authentic cultural experience.
