Workshops in Barichara
During our visit to Barichara, we discovered two of our favorite activities: workshops that not only allowed us to connect with the ancestral traditions of the region, but also offered moments of relaxation and simplicity.
Below, you’ll find the description of both experiences.
Earth Paintings: Art Born from the Soil
Barichara
is known not only for its colonial architecture and cobbled streets, but also
for an artistic expression rooted in the land itself: earth painting. This
ancestral and ecological technique uses natural pigments extracted from local
soil to create unique works of art.
This art form not only honors natural resources, but also promotes a more
conscious connection with the environment. In a world dominated by synthetic
materials, the earth paintings of different towns of Santander invite us to
return to the essential, the authentic—what is born from the ground and
transformed into beauty.

Suitable for: All ages
Duration: 2 hours approx.
Tapialito Workshop: Learning with Earth and Hands
Join us for a unique experience where earth,
tradition, and collective work come together. In this workshop, we’ll build a
tapialito—a scaled-down version of the traditional tapial, an ancient technique
of rammed earth construction used for centuries in Barichara and other regions
of Colombia.
This workshop is an opportunity to explore ancestral knowledge rooted in the
territory, learn about different types of soil, their mixtures, and the tools
needed to raise a solid, natural, and sustainable wall. Through hands-on
practice, we will understand the cultural and ecological significance of
tapial—a construction method that connects architecture, history, and the
environment.
Includes: A cup of coffee or tea or a glass of wine. Cookies for children
Suitable for: Ages 7 and up
Duration: 2 hours approx.
