Exploring New Paths: Villa de Leyva to Barichara Scouting Trip
Earlier this month, six members of the Kiubo team set out on a new scouting trip, spending seven days traveling from Villa de Leyva to Barichara. We took advantage of the low season to uncover unforgettable landscapes, authentic experiences, and hidden gems that we’ll soon be sharing with our travelers.
In Villa de Leyva, we visited a farm run by rural women, where we learned about traditional sheep shearing and wool weaving. We also took part in workshops on pottery, fique fiber, and earth painting using natural pigments from Santander, connecting deeply with the region’s living traditions.
Throughout the journey, we explored charming towns in
Boyacá such as Tinjacá and Ráquira, known for their colonial beauty and
artisanal heritage. In Santander, we visited Guane, Curití, San Gil, and Mesa
de los Santos, each offering a unique identity, rich history, and experiences
to inspire future trips.
On our way to Barichara, we stopped at Las Gachas, a
crystal-clear stream that runs over reddish rock and features natural pools
shaped by erosion over thousands of years. These circular formations resemble
small natural jacuzzis and are a fascinating geological feature of the region.
As always, we visited and reviewed hotels in each
destination to ensure every trip we design continues to meet our standards of
quality, authenticity, and warmth.
Stay tuned! We’ll soon be launching new travel ideas
inspired by this journey, with unique combinations we believe our travelers
will absolutely love.
