New Tours in Medellín and the Coffee Region

Today, we would like to introduce two new tours that we recently visited and were very excited about. One focuses on street art and urban transformation in Medellín, and the other on a basket weaving workshop in Filandia, located in the coffee region.

We’ll start with the tour in Medellín, which our colleague Karol visited a few days ago. This half-day excursion highlights the transformative power of art. Here is our description:

Constelaciones: Urban Revitalization through Street Art in the Manrique Neighborhood

Today, on a half-day tour, we will experience the vibrant world of urban art, which has the power to transform neighborhoods that were once dangerous. "Constelaciones" is a massive artwork that the Medellín City Council completed in 2024 in the Manrique neighborhood. It was made possible by the painting and transformation of more than 500 houses, as well as 30 artistic murals created by four artist collectives.

During the tour, we will not only get to know the expression of the various artist collectives but also the process of transforming this neighborhood. This project is closely linked to the fascinating stories of modern entrepreneurship in Medellín. In addition, we will see how art projects can revitalize entire neighborhoods and drastically improve the quality of life of their residents.

Additionally, we would like to introduce you to the trip to Filandia, the small, colorful village in the heart of the "Coffee Region”, where we can take part in a hands-on basket weaving workshop.

Today, we visit Filandia, a charming little town known for its colorful colonial-style houses, coffee landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere. At the central square of Filandia, we receive an introduction to the typical architectural style of the region, follow the colorful streets between the craft shops, and participate in an authentic basket weaving workshop led by an experienced basket weaver.

We are shown how to weave a handmade coffee basket using a specific type of vine plant. To conclude, we visit two viewpoints, "Quindio" and "Casa Encanto," from which we can admire the wonderful coffee cultural landscape. The tour take about 4 hours.
