Sustainability: Tourcert Audit at Kiubo Colombia

At the beginning of July 2024, we once again sat down with the people responsible at Tourcert (our certifier in terms of international sustainability standards) to discuss Kiubo's sustainability process. After founding our incoming agency more than two years ago, we find ourselves becoming more and more established each month.

Here are some achievements from the past 12 months:

-          In October 2023 and May 2024, we organized two First Aid Courses for our top tour guides, drivers, and Kiubo employees.

-          We are seeing significantly more travelers in the "emerging tourist destinations of Colombia," which were previously considered "difficult to travel." This provides income to places that were previously cut off from the international tourism flow.

-          Particularly the tourist activities with indigenous communities are always exciting. Cultural exchange is more important than ever in today's world. Feel free to ask us about excursions to the Kogui community in Katanzama (Caribbean coast), to Silvia (southern Colombia) to visit the Misak people, or to the Coconuco group in the Purace National Park (located between San Agustin and Popayan).

-          Additionally, we are always looking for alternatives to tourist destinations in Colombia that are already reaching their capacity limits on weekends and holidays. For visiting the Cocora Valley and the colorful village of Salento, we have alternatives, such as the "Valle de Silencio" and the nearby small village of Pijao or the "Valle de San Fenix" near Salamina. In both places, you can observe the national tree, the wax palm, in its natural environment.

-          Emergency plans for any eventualities are in place, ready for use.

-          Numerous training sessions on health and safety in the workplace

-          Communication is king: We have excellent exchanges with the various stakeholders.

At Kiubo, we continue to work on various topics related to sustainability. Feel free to tell us what your companies are doing in this area and what possible collaborations could exist between us.
