Finca Emilio - New Hotel South of Medellin

Today, we want to introduce you to a small, exclusive holiday retreat that is particularly well-suited for guests traveling between the coffee zone and Medellín: Finca Emilio. Located at a pleasant, spring-like climate at 1800 meters above sea level, it offers the perfect opportunity to spend a few quiet days.

We have already hosted several self-driving travelers at Finca Emilio. To reach the finca, we recommend that our travelers have some driving experience and an off-road vehicle (e.g., a Renault Duster).

From the finca, various hikes can be undertaken independently. The hosts, Marie and Diego, are always happy to explain what can be done right on site. The advantage is that both speak perfect German, English, and Spanish. In the immediate vicinity of Finca Emilio, there is a small coffee farm worth visiting. Here, you will learn everything about Colombia's important export product, coffee. Horseback riding excursions can also be planned directly on site. A trip to the Cerro Bravo Nature Reserve is also worthwhile, as it can be reached in just 25 minutes by Jeep.

The view from the finca near the village of Fredonia is breathtaking. In the distance, you can see the Cauca Valley, where the Cauca River makes its way north. You can expect spectacular sunsets over the western Andes of Colombia.

Searching for the Spectacled Bear in Colombia

Just a few days ago, almost the entire Kiubo team embarked on a full-day excursion to Chingaza National Park, located east of Bogota and right at our doorstep. The goal of this expedition was ambitious – to witness the spectacled bear , the only bear species in South America, native to Colombia, with our own eyes. These bears thrive in the remote, high-altitude Paramo ecosystems, where they find abundant food. Kiubo Colombia in Chingaza Early in the morni ng, we set out to the national park east of Bogota. Over 80% of the excellent-quality drinking water , supplied to approximately 10 million residents, is sourced from this park through massive pipelines. Amidst impressive landsca pes, mostly at elevations exceeding 3000 meters above sea level, we observed various animal species throughout the day. What is the VAT refund? It is a benefit granted to foreign tourists that allows the reimbursement of the Value Added Tax (VAT) for purchases of taxable goods within Colombian territory.
