Completion of the highway between Medellín and the Coffee Zone
Colombia has been continuously investing in its transportation infrastructure in recent years. Nearly all of the country's airports have been renovated or even completely rebuilt, and the road connections between the major regions of Colombia are steadily improving.
In April 2024, the heavily traveled route between Medellín, the second largest city in Colombia, and the so-called Coffee Triangle was completed. This connection is a significant north-south axis that was often interrupted by construction work in the past. Currently, the travel time by car from Pereira to Medellín averages 5 hours for the 200-kilometer journey. Before the completion of this road, it often took at least 7 hours to travel.
The route between Medellin and the coffee triangle is very scenic
As you know, we often include both Medellín and tours in the Coffee Zone in our round trips. Especially the cities of Manizales, Pereira, and Armenia located in the Coffee Triangle attract with their pleasant climate and numerous hacienda hotels. Medellín is considered an innovative city and is seen as a symbol of change in Colombia.
Although there are also flight connections between Medellín and the Coffee Zone, we recommend traveling the route by vehicle. This way, we can save a lot of CO2 emissions, and the journey offers interesting and varied landscapes.
