During our recent inspection in Cartagena, we had the opportunity to participate in a combination of different street food tours. Now, we want to share some highlights with you. Here we go...
In the central district of Getsemaní, we started the day with a fresh "Arepa de Huevo", a corn cake with an egg inside, a typical breakfast along the entire Caribbean coast. We paired it with a refreshing tamarind juice while our guide shared the significance of the neighborhood during colonial times and stories of her own ancestors.

From here, we strolled through Parque Centenario towards one of the oldest ceviche stands in the city. We sampled the "original" shrimp ceviche recipe, while a version with sweet mango was prepared for vegetarians. We heard the family history of the vendors and learned how this recipe has been passed down from generation to generation. Of course, dessert couldn't be missed, so we headed to Doña Mary's food stand near the "Torre del Reloj," where we tried various desserts with coconut, tamarind, milk, and other ingredients essential to Caribbean cuisine. These stops are part of the official "Street Food Cartagena" tour.
Next, we visited an ice cream parlor specializing in ice cream made from typical fruits of the region. There, we tasted tamarind, berry, and corozo ice cream, among other fruits. This stop is part of the "Saborea el Encanto de Colombia" tour.

Continuing into the heart of Cartagena's old town, we met with Palenqueras, women from the San Basilio de Palenque community, carrying baskets of fruits on their heads. They offered us a juicy pineapple, mangoes, and other fruits while we listened to excerpts from various books by García Márquez, including "Chronicle of a Death Foretold," "One Hundred Years of Solitude," and "Love in the Time of Cholera." A great opportunity to enjoy Cartagena from a literary perspective. This tour is named "El Menú Literario de García Márquez."

We continued our stroll and arrived at our next stop, where we tried corozo juice with aguardiente (sugar cane liquor) and enjoyed cheese carimañolas with suero costeño. These delights are typical fried dishes on the Caribbean coast. Our gastronomic tour through the city concluded at Plaza de San Pedro, where we finished our tour with delicious Kibe made from lentils and almond rice, accompanied by a refreshing pineapple juice. These last two stops are part of the "Fancy Street Food" tour.
Our conclusion after a great day: This is the perfect program for our guests. Feel free to let us know if your customers have any dietary restrictions. We definitely have options for vegetarians or vegans in our program.
¡Buen provecho!
