New Adventure Product in San Jose del Guaviare
A few weeks ago, Karol & Christopher attended a sustainability congress focused on tourism in San Jose del Guaviare. San Jose is the capital of the Guaviare department, located in the southern region of Colombia and home to roughly 30,000 people. Guaviare is considered a gateway to the Amazon and is regarded as one of the "new destinations" on Colombia's tourism map.
Travelers can expect adventures far from the already established tourism spots in Colombia. Currently, tours are available in English, French, and Portuguese. German tour guidance is not yet available.
Guaviare is accessible from Bogota several times a week by
air, with a flight duration of approximately 1.5 hours. It's also reachable by
car from Bogota in about 7 hours to San Jose del Guaviare.

Day 1 - Puerta de Orion and Sunset at Guaviare River
On this day, we will be picked up at the airport of the relatively provincial capital, San Jose de Guaviare, and taken to the hotel in the city center. We will leave our main luggage at the hotel and then, after an short car ride, go on a hike through the rock formations of the "Serranía de La Lindosa" to get to know the Puerta de Orion. It is a 12-meter-high rock structure located amidst lush green nature and is considered the symbol of the Guaviare Department.

The day ends with a walk along the promenade of San José, situated right on the impressive Guaviare River, where you can enjoy the colorful sunset.
Day 2 - Cerro Azul
Today, we visit Cerro Azul, a gigantic rock formation rising out of the rainforest, where extensive prehistoric rock paintings have been found. The prehistoric art is said to be over 10,000 years old. Our day begins early in the morning with a approximately 2-hour journey on an unpaved road to reach the visitor center, where we'll have breakfast. During our hike through the jungle, we'll have the opportunity to spot monkeys and birds until we reach the rock art murals. As we ascend Cerro Azul, we pass through a 210-meter-long cave. It's worth taking a moment in complete darkness.
