Reopening of the "Los Nevados" National Park in the Coffee Zone
We are pleased to inform you that the Los Nevados National Park, located in the central Andean mountain range in close proximity to the Coffee Zone, has been reopened to visitors since August 10th. The National Park had been closed for several months due to increased volcanic activity from Nevado del Ruiz.

Effective immediately, all tourist activities and trekking tours within the park are once again possible. Accommodations within the park are also back to normal operation, and we are delighted that the many small, agriculturally used fincas, which also serve as accommodations, can now expect tourism-related income once more.
| Typical landscape in the National Park |
The Los Nevados National Park is strategically situated. It is located to the west of the Coffee Zone, at the center of the country. The park can be accessed directly through Cocora Valley and numerous other park entrances. For instance, you can hike from Salento through the Cocora Valley, crossing the cloud forest, traversing the clouds, reaching the unique ecosystem of Paramos with its distinctive Frailejones plants. Above 4000 meters in elevation, lichens and mosses become more abundant, vegetation becomes sparser, the air thinner, and above 4500 meters, you'll mostly see rocks and scree. Depending on the exposure, the eternal ice (which unfortunately doesn't seem eternal anymore due to climate change) begins at around 4900 meters above sea level.
For those who don't have the fortune and time for a trek in "Los Nevados," on clear mornings, you can also see the snow-covered volcanoes of the National Park from Bogota's neighboring mountains, such as Monserrate or Guadalupe. Feel free to ask us about the most exciting trekking routes in the National Park.
