Temporary closure of the Los Nevados National Park

Due to the ongoing increased volcanic activity of the volcano Nevado del Ruiz, the national park Los Nevados is closed to all tourist activities with immediate effect.

Other tourist activities outside the national park are not affected by the closure.

At 5321 metres, Nevado del Ruiz is the second highest active volcano in the northern hemisphere and one of the highest mountains in Colombia. The stratovolcano, located 140 km from Bogotá, can also be seen from Monserrate Hill in the centre of Bogotá in good weather conditions. Since 2012, the ash cloud has been clearly visible from Bogota.

The Los Nevados National Park is the starting point for many fantastic hikes and summit climbs within the park. If any of your tourist programmes are affected, we will contact you immediately and recommend alternative hikes.

Hopefully, the park will reopen its doors soon.
