Colombian government and ELN guerilla start peace talks
We are happy to hear that Colombia's government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) on the 21st of November 2022 resumed formal peace talks in Caracas, Venezuela for the first time since they were suspended in 2019.
The ELN is the last recognized rebel group in the country and within whole South-America. It has around 2,500 members under arms. The group is primarily active in the Pacific region and along the more than 2000-kilometer long border with Venezuela.

The talks are a push by President Gustavo Petro, who became Colombia's first-ever leftist leader in August 2022 and has vowed a less bellicose approach to ending violence. With the negotiations Colombia is hoping to end six decades of war. The next negotiation round will take place next January in Mexico. We will keep you updated on the latest news about this topic.
