Experience Colombia’s Whale Season

In Colombia, we are blessed in many ways, and one of the most important is our nature. Being the second most biodiverse country in the world opens up so many opportunities and experiences that are truly unique to Colombia and its beauty.

Being the only country in South America with two oceans (Atlantic & Pacific) is something we are very proud of. Today, we want to remind you of one of the best things Colombia has to offer.

The whale season is coming soon, and we believe now is the perfect time to start planning a visit to the Pacific coast. Starting in July and lasting until November, we have some very special guests on the western side of our country.


From July onwards, the majestic humpback whales travel all the way from the cold waters of Antarctica to Colombia’s Pacific coast to breed and give birth. The warmer waters, compared to the freezing Antarctic temperatures, provide the perfect conditions for these mammals to welcome their newborns and stay here until they are strong enough to make the journey back south.

This phenomenon is truly something special. These whales travel over 8,000 km, making it one of the longest migrations on Earth, just to enjoy Colombia’s nature. And, following Colombia’s musical traditions, they also seem to love music. They sing complex songs that can last up to 30 minutes. We are still trying to translate them, hopefully this will be our year. But if we had to guess, we think they are either singing Colombia’s national anthem or maybe some currulao, the traditional music of the Pacific region.

Why they choose Colombia is a good question. Scientists say it is because of the ideal conditions the Pacific offers for reproduction. Here at Kiubo, we like to believe they also come for a short holiday to enjoy nature, the warmth of the Colombian people, and maybe even the Colombian vibes.

That’s why we want you to come and experience Colombia’s Pacific coast and witness this incredible natural event. And while you’re there, you can also enjoy the beaches, the nature, and everything this region has to offer.

The best places to visit are Nuquí and Bahía Solano, with flights from Medellín and Cali with regional airlines. Even the journey there is an unforgettable experience.

Colombia is heading toward a decisive presidential election this month, in which the political lines are clearly drawn and which will have a significant impact on the country’s future political direction. Three distinct visions are vying for the presidency. The Political Landscape On the left is Iván Cepeda, who advocates for the continuation and deepening of the reform agenda of President Gustavo Petro (the first left-leaning president in Colombia’s history). Kolumbien ist das Land des Kaffees, der Musik und des Fußballs, geprägt von beeindruckender Natur, großer Vielfalt und innovativem Geist. Es ist ein faszinierendes und vielseitiges Land. Auch wenn Tejo unser Nationalsport ist, lieben wir Kolumbianer Fußball. Tourismusmessen in Bogota und in Berlin

Die Zeit vergeht rasend schnell. Schon haben wir es Mitte Januar und im kommenden Monat stehen schon wieder die ersten Tourismusmessen für uns auf dem Plan. Ende Februar und Anfang März könnt ihr uns auf gleich zwei großen Tourismusmessen antreffen. 1. Colombia Travel Mart 2024: Ende Februar steht wieder unsere größte kolumbianische Tourismusmesse an. Auf dem Messegelände in Bogota geht die „Vitrina Turistica“ in ihre 43. Ausgabe. Am 29. Februar und 01. März 2024 treffen einmal mehr Fachleute aus der nationalen und internationalen Tourismusszene zusammen und tauschen sich eine Woche vor der ITB über die neuesten Entwicklungen in Kolumbien aus.  Hier findet ihr weitere Informationen zum Event. Guide for VAT Refunds for Foreign Tourists in Colombia

What is the VAT refund? It is a benefit granted to foreign tourists that allows the reimbursement of the Value Added Tax (VAT) for purchases of taxable goods within Colombian territory. Main Requirements: Foreign tourist status:  You must not hold Colombian nationality, must have a tourist migration status, and a stay in the country of less than 90 days. Electronic invoice:  Purchases must be supported by electronic invoices containing the tourist's identification details (name, surname, and passport or entry document number).
